South Seas Mermaid post #7

Okay, somewhat in the home stretch now, though I didn't stitch as much as I anticipated since my last post. I blame my friend who gifted me a copy of Stardew Valley. Life ruining experience. :p

All the regular stitching is done, which means it's time for... over one skin! I think I need to make myself an enlarged working copy so I can rechart it a bit as usual. I always smooth/round the transitions between the colors when doing over one, so I'll need to enlarge and play with it a bit.

In other news, the wisteria is in full bloom outside, and it smells amazing! I remember when this thing was just a pathetic little stick that needed a trellis. It's completely destroyed the wood trellis now and it almost covers the entire top of the pergola. Maybe it will cover the entire thing this year and look even more amazing next year!

I wish I could upload the smell of the flowers somehow, but you'll just have to trust me. It's lovely, and we have so many bees visiting! It's fun to watch the big fat bumblebees chase each other around, as if there isn't enough pollen for everyone or something!

  2. You must take a photo of your wisteria next year. It looks lovely! Sounds like the bees are having fun frolicking :)

Your mermaid is beautiful! Can't wait to see her completed.

  3. Mermaid is stunning Rahenna. Good luck charting and stitching the skin. If I remember correctly, this is your favourite part!!! :)

  4. Hello Rahenna,
Your mermaid is looking gorgeous. We had a wisteria growing in our backyard at our other house. I loved its smell every year. It will take off and grow. I am new to your blog and now a new follower. Have a great day.

    1. Hi Carolyn! The wisteria smells great but sadly the flowers are already starting to fade. Still, it's amazing for the few weeks that it blooms!

  6. She is beautiful!! Very jealous of your Wisteria!! Do you get any hummingbirds, or just the bees?

    1. No hummingbirds, sadly, I think maybe they don't like wisteria? But we've had feeders out a few times too and never got any hummingbirds, so maybe there just aren't any in this area. Some of the bumblebees are big enough to look like hummingbirds at a quick glance, though!

  7. The mermaid is gorgeous! There's a lot of skin though. I always rechart when I'm doing over one. It looks so blocky otherwise which kind of defeats the object!

  8. The cross-stitch looks great, along with the wisteria. It's inspired me to plant some this year. Do you know if it's full sun or partial sun exposure?

    1. Where I live, summer is full sun all day, every day, and it doesn't have any problem! :)

  9. Beautiful stitching and wisteria! No flowers outside here yet, except for snowdrops and a few crocuses. Still too wintery.

  10. Your mermaid is looking great!

I just noticed all of the wisteria in bloom here, too (it's the first place I've lived with wisteria). It's funny how it all just erupted, but it's all oh so pretty!
